San Diego Sheriff Deputies Not Required to Complete Training Courses

‘Training’ implies that the employee is obtaining a skill or knowledge that will benefit their job.

A Public Records’ Request for San Diego County Sheriff Training Logs revealed that although training is mandatory and paid for with Taxpayers’ Money; there is no oversight and it appears to be the Sheriff Deputy’s option to skip the training or simply log off without completing the training.

The Training Logs of two San Diego County Sheriff shows that in January Officer Calloway spent 4 minutes and 22 seconds on ‘Bias and Racial Profiling’, Officer Silva spent 0 minutes and only 8 Seconds on the same ‘training’.

In June, 2020, Sheriff Deputy Calloway spent a 16 seconds on ‘Stand Down Training’ and 30 seconds on ‘AR 15 Training’. In contrast; Sheriff Deputy Silva only spent 6 seconds on ‘Stand Down Training’ and 8 seconds on ‘AR 15 Training’.

It is a disturbing revelation that the San Diego Sheriff’s Department has an arsenal of AR 15 Assault Rifles, which violates California Constitution Section 5: “A standing army may not be maintained in peacetime.”

But it is more disturbing to know that San Diego Deputies are issued AR 15 Assault Rifles without proper training or supervision.
